FCA Camp at NAU
Summer of 2019 I attended and served at FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) Camp for the first time and I couldn’t wait return to one summer with TRUCE girls there also. This month that became a reality.
FCA Camp is a 4-day overnight sports camp at Northern Arizona University where over 300 middle and high school athletes from all over the state attend. I went again this year as a girl’s basketball coach and Annika and Sam, two 7th graders that I trained in the spring, came also. It was amazing to see how much both girls improved at camp. One of my highlights at camp was after our final practice Sam asked me, “when are we having TRUCE again?”. Sam had just completed her fifth practice at camp and was already wondering when we would have TRUCE workouts again.
FCA Camp allowed me to connect with Sam and Annika on and off the court in unique ways that I typically wouldn’t be able to. I can’t wait to train with them again and witness their continued development. FCA Camp also allowed me to grow in my coaching skills by leading practices and drills and by learning from and connecting with other coaches. Since I’m working on preparing for the fall and working on getting access to a gym, this summer I won’t be working with girls as much on the court, so it was sweet to get time with Annika and Sam at camp.
